What would you do if you discovered that your drinking water contained antibiotics, heart medications, psychiatric drugs and hormones?
I discovered that when we throw
These same drugs, if just left unsecured in our medicine cabinets, are causing the latest drug epidemic, Teen Prescription Drug Abuse. Our medicine cabinets are now the new drug dealers.
More people abuse prescription drugs than cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine combined.
So, when the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) wouldn't help, I created my own drug collection program, WI P2D2, which stands for WI Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal at the age of 14.
Currently, I have: started programs in over 8 communities, helped collect over 900,000 pounds of drugs, raised over $40,000, invested over 1,000 volunteer hours, purchased 24/7 drug drop off boxes, engaged students to volunteer, helped purchase incinerators, been the first teen in WI to win a state municipal grant, mentored teens and adults across the country, recorded a PSA warning parents about this epidemic, became a national spokesperson for teen activism, and made WI P2D2 the first teen-created, self-sustainable, drug collection program in the world!
I have merged my program with another and P2D2 has now spread into over 22 states and Brazil is attempting to start a program! My campus is only 40 miles away from the center of my program, so continuing it during college will not be a problem.
