Which Browsers Do You Support?
We would like to be able to make our pages universally accessible to everyone, so we've developed them based closely on W3C standards with a few exceptions. Use the information provided below as a general reference.

  • Netscape 4.75 and above
  • IE 5.01 and above

For AOL users:
We do not directly support AOL software.

Some users of AOL 5.0 have reported difficulty connecting online. For many, this problem has been resolved by upgrading to the latest version of AOL software. You may download the current version of AOL at www.aol.com

If you are using AOL and are having problems, we recommend you take the following steps when using Charter One Online Banking:

  • Launch AOL and connect to the service
  • Minimize AOL after connecting
  • Launch Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher) or Netscape 4.7 (or higher, except 6.0) browser
  • Go to Charterone.com and you'll be ready to register

For Opera users:
We do not directly support Opera software. However, we have many customers who have reported success in using Opera 6.0 and above with our site.

If you get a blank screen immediately after you attempt to login.
To correct this problem, open your Opera browser. Go to File, Preferences, PRIVACY. A dialogue box will open. You should see 3 checkboxes, beginning with "enable referrer logging". The second option is, "enable automatic redirection". This option should be checked. Shut down your browser and try logging in again.

For Mozilla users:
We do not directly support Mozilla, but some users have reported an issue concerning a connection problem on some secured sites. This issue seems to be resolved by disabling the option of "pipelining" http: requests in Mozzilla 1.1.
For more information, please visit Mozilla's FAQ section at:

Digital Certification and Validation
An Internet Explorer vulnerability may affect the way digital certificates from web servers are validated. According to Microsoft, a vulnerability exists in Internet Explorer 5.01 and 5.5 that may prevent proper digital certification checks under certain conditions.

Check for the latest service pack on your browser or simply go to Microsoft's Product and Support Services Site, for a more detailed explanation.

Error Message while logged in 'This Page Contains Both Secure and Non-Secure Items'
Some users may see an intermittent browser message stating that, 'both secure and non-secure items are present on this page'. This message may occasionally appear when the browser has a problem with loading secure pages within a frame. However, your private banking information is secure. For more information, you may refer to an article on Microsoft's Knowledge Base for details.

Protecting Private Information
Clearing your browser's history list is crucial if you don't want the next person who uses your PC to know where you have been. Internet Explorer has a feature, Intelliforms, which leaves an additional trail, caching text you type into Web forms. If your history is not properly cleared, others can access sensitive information. To clear out this cached data, choose Tools, Internet Options, click the Content tab and the AutoComplete button, and then click in turn the Clear Forms and Clear Passwords button.

Test Your Internet Connection

Before calling or emailing to report a problem, please be sure to verify that your Internet connection and browser are working properly. You can do this by simply trying to access one or two other other sites on the Internet such as Microsoft or CNET. If most are not available, you may wish to restart your Internet connection and browser, and try accessing your account again. If still unable to connect to other sites, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider (America Online, Compuserve, SNET, etc.) to help you resolve the issue.

Menus not working properly
This issue is caused by not having Javascript support enabled in your web browser.
