Gov. Edward G. Rendell and American Red Cross Honor Citizens Financial Group President and CEO

Stephen D. Steinour is named Citizen of the Year for his outstanding volunteerism

Philadelphia    (June 14, 2007) -  Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell presented Citizens Financial Group President and CEO Stephen D. Steinour with the Citizen of the Year Award from the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania at the 25th annual Citizen of the Year breakfast held Wednesday, June 13, 2007. Steinour was recognized for his outstanding corporate leadership and commitment to volunteerism and the power of giving back to the community.

“I would like join in the chorus of voices thanking Steve Steinour today for his dedication to the American Red Cross and other civic and charitable organizations in the region that have benefited from his volunteerism,” said Rendell. “Steve is devoted to community involvement and his leadership has spearheaded numerous successful economic initiatives in the region and the state.”

Steinour was honored for his leadership in championing important community, economic and business issues. Under Steinour’s direction, Citizens Bank is well-known for its corporate culture of community service. In 2006, for example, Citizens Bank employees across the tri-state area volunteered more than 81,000 hours of personal time at local community organizations.

“I am honored to receive the Citizen of the Year Award and I thank the tremendous organizations, like the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania, that work each and every day to help the residents of Greater Philadelphia in their greatest time of need,” said Steinour. “It is my great honor to work with these organizations and with my colleagues at Citizens Bank who dedicate their energy and time to giving back to our community.”
       
For the past 25 years, the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter has been honoring a local citizen for his or her outstanding corporate leadership and commitment to our region’s civic and charitable organizations. 

“Steve Steinour has been a great friend to the American Red Cross, providing support to our organization and the people we help each day in the region,” said Tom Foley, CEO of the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter. “Steve has stood ready and willing to assist the Red Cross however he can, and goes above and beyond in his efforts to assist our mission. We are pleased to honor him with our 25th annual Citizen of the Year Award.”

Volunteer programs are an important element of such signature Citizens Bank programs as the $280 million Citizens Bank Neighborhood Investment Program designed to help stimulate Philadelphia’s economic growth and neighborhood development; Champions in ActionSM; Be Inspired Award; and Citizens Bank Community Service Sabbatical program. Throughout the
year, Citizens Bank also organizes dozens of volunteer opportunities so that colleagues can participate in various settings and with numerous organizations throughout the Philadelphia region.
