Charter One Bank launches ‘Making Music Matter’ Program at Northerly Island concert venue

CHICAGO   (June 14, 2006) -  Charter One Bank announced today that it is launching a unique summer-long program – designed to build awareness and support for local community organizations – at the Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island.  Beginning on June 17 and continuing throughout the summer, Charter One Bank’s “Making Music Matter” program will recognize and support local not-for-profit organizations by raising much-needed funds at select concerts throughout the summer.

On Saturday, June 17, Charter One Bank’s “Making Music Matter” will kick off the concert season with the Greater Chicago Food Depository as the inaugural partner at an exciting performance featuring Rob Thomas and Jewel.   Additional community partners dedicated to serving Chicagoans in need will be announced throughout the summer.

“We are fortunate to have so many visionary organizations throughout Chicago that are working to address the pressing social challenges in our community. At the Charter One Pavilion, we have a unique opportunity to assist some of our non-profit partners to fulfill their missions and reach their goals” said Christine Noel, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs. “It is our hope that this program, with the generous support of the Chicago community, will make music matter in a very tangible way to the members of our community most in need.”

Charter One is asking concert-goers to make donations at the Charter One Bank tent, located just inside the admission gates. Volunteers from Charter One Bank and the Greater Chicago Food Depository will be available in the tent to accept the donations. In addition to individual contributions, Charter One is pledging to match contributions up to a goal of $25,000 per community partner.

In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month, “Making Music Matter” will continue to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository at The Black Crowes concert on Saturday, June 24 and the Mark Knopfler with Emmylou Harris concert on Sunday, June 25.

“The Chicago community should be so grateful to have civic leadership like that provided by Charter One, which is working to bring together diverse groups of people for a common cause to help our less fortunate neighbors,” said Mike Mulqueen, Executive Director of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “With programs like “Making Music Matter,” the Food Depository is able to provide an effective safety net for people in need throughout Chicago.”

As an incentive to participate in the “Making Music Matters” program, Charter One will host drawings for iPod nanos for individuals who donate to the Greater Chicago Food Depository at any of the three featured concerts.
