Charter One Bank to launch Tools for School program in Ohio
Three-week campaign aimed at filling 1,200 backpacks with school supplies for local disadvantaged children in time for schoolCLEVELAND (July 11, 2006) - Charter One Bank will launch Tools for School, an initiative to collect new school supplies for 1,200 Cleveland children. The program will make going back to school a more exciting time this year for disadvantaged children.
Pencils, paper, folders, glue, safety scissors and a variety of other new school supplies may be dropped off at Charter One Bank branches in Cuyahoga County between July 11 and August 4. The supplies will be used to fill 1,200 new backpacks purchased by the bank. The backpacks will be distributed to Cleveland children in grades K to 6 through the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association.
“Many of us are fortunate enough to remember the feeling of excitement and anticipation that came every summer from preparing to return to school,” said Ned Handy, President and CEO of Charter One Bank, Ohio. “Unfortunately, there are thousands of local children who never know that feeling because for them, school supplies are a luxury. Charter One hopes to make the back-to-school anticipation a little more exciting for 1,200 Cleveland schoolchildren by giving them the tools they need to succeed in school this year.”
Allison Wallace, Executive Director of the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association, said: “This campaign will go a long way toward getting the school year off to a great start, certainly for our children, but also for the schools they attend and the neighborhoods where they live. Charter One is fulfilling a need that most people take for granted. The children we serve will definitely have an improved outlook on returning to school in August.”
The “Tools for School” program was launched by Charter One Bank’s parent company, Citizens Financial Group, which offers the program in several of the markets it serves throughout its 13-state footprint.
