Charter One offers support to tornado victims in northwest Ohio

$20,000 grant to the United Way of Greater Toledo will assist affected families and individuals

CLEVELAND   (June 9, 2010) - Charter One today announced it will donate $20,000 to United Way of Greater Toledo to provide disaster relief assistance to families and individuals affected by the tornadoes in Lucas, Wood and Ottawa counties.

"As a company committed to supporting the communities where our customers and colleagues live and work, we are honored to play a small role in helping the individuals and families who were impacted by the tornadoes of this past weekend. Our thoughts are with them as they rebuild their lives and recover from their losses,” said Ken Marblestone, President of Charter One in Ohio.

The Charter One Foundation will provide a $20,000 grant to the United Way of Greater Toledo to assist with volunteer clean-up efforts and long-term relief to families over the next year.

Charter One Regional Manager Mary Miller said, “The effects of the tornadoes have been devastating to hundreds of people in the area – our customers, our neighbors and the community overall. Charter One is pleased to be able to respond to this tragedy with much needed funds to help those most in need.”

“We are grateful to count Charter One as a partner in these crucial relief efforts,” said Bill Kitson, United Way of Greater Toledo president & CEO. “Because of its generosity, we will be able to deploy hundreds of volunteers immediately and also be able to provide some long-term assistance to affected families for future needs they may not even forsee yet.”

Those interested in volunteering for clean-up efforts in Wood County can call the United Way’s 2-1-1 line for more information, or visit the Volunteer Reception Center at Grace United Methodist Church at 601 East Boundary Street in Perrysburg.
