Luke Donald holds youth golf clinic for First Tee of Chicago
Charter One Bank hosts event for Chicago-area youth at Marquette ParkCHICAGO (June 27, 2006) - PGA standout Luke Donald will teach more than 50 youths from Chicago’s South Side about the game of golf, at a June 29 clinic hosted by Charter One Bank. Donald, an RBS Ambassador, will offer hitting lessons and share golf tips with the participants from The First Tee of Chicago during the interactive clinic at Marquette Park Golf Course from 3 to 4 p.m.
The First Tee is a national organization that gives young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values through golf and character education. The Chicago Chapter was established in the summer of 2000. The First Tee program is based at Marquette Driving Range, one of only two grass driving ranges in Chicago. Through this clinic, Charter One Bank is able to support The First Tee’s mission to offer young people more opportunities to realize their full potential.
“Our partnership with The First Tee reflects Charter One Bank’s commitment to community involvement at the grassroots level,” said Stacey Reineking, Vice President and Director of Public Affairs at Charter One Bank. “We understand the importance of developing values in today’s young generation, with the help of role models like Luke Donald, and are proud to bring this clinic to Chicago’s youth.”
The clinic is just one part of The First Tee program supported by Charter One Bank and its parent, Citizens Financial Group, a subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS). In June 2004, RBS became a National Trustee of The First Tee. Through this partnership, RBS creates fun and educational programs that provide opportunities for hundreds of young people in the United States.
“Being able to introduce kids to the game of golf, especially in my hometown of Chicago, is important to me,” said Luke Donald. “My involvement with The First Tee and Team RBS allows me to make a difference in young adults’ lives through our shared enthusiasm about golf.”
“We welcome Luke Donald and Charter One Bank to our facility for this special opportunity,” said Jim Russell, Outreach Coordinator for The First Tee of Chicago. “Clinics like this reinforce the nine core values of The First Tee and allow us to put those values into practice.”
